I did this shoot with the lovely Sylvia Anne back in December 2016 at a section of Whites Beach at Broken head which I hadn’t shot at before. The rocks in this section are very jagged and quite sharp so it was hard to find comfortable spots for Sylvia to pose in without it being too uncomfortable for her and marking up her skin.
What I really love about these images is the contrasts. The contrast between Sylvia’s soft, smooth skin against the harsh, sharp textures of the surrounding rocks and also the tonal contrast between her light skin tone and the darker rocks. It was for this reason I chose to convert them to black and white. To enhance these contrasting features by reducing any distractions of colour.
